DTF Maintenance Checklist: Daily, Weekly, & Monthly

Daily Start up Maintenance

Before using this Maintenance Checklist read the disclaimer near the bottom of the page

Before conducting any maintenance your printer and dryer should turned off 

  • Ink Management: Check all ink levels and ensure the white ink tank is full. Thoroughly mix white ink bottles before adding them to the tank and use an ink roller for spare bottles to prevent settling.
  • Inspection of Printer after start up check these areas to make sure they are clean and free from obstructions: check your capping station, wiper area, printhead area, and verify white ink circulation is working properly
  • Run a Nozzle Test: Review pattern to make sure a majority of your nozzles are working properly
  • Fill Hopper: Fill the hopper making sure there are no clumps in the adhesive
  • Inspection of the Dryer: After turning the dryer on make sure the paddle and shaker are working properly, then open the lid of the dryer to ensure all bulbs are working properly.

Daily DTF Printer Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean between every print run, focusing on the wiper blade, printhead surroundings, and the bottom of the carriage plate. Clean cap stations and ensure the edges are in good condition.
  • Printheads: Print a nozzle test before each run and perform cleaning cycles as needed. If cleaning the nozzle plate, use a lint-free wipe with gentle pressure, wiping from the middle outward
  • Environment: Protect the printer from supplemental airflow (fans/HVAC), as this can cause head failure. Keep the dryer unit clear of powder dust.  Optimal environment conditions are 72°F and 30% relative humidity.  Keep the print room at these settings 100% of the time. If the temperature in the room is over 85°F we recommend turning the printer off.

End of Day Maintenance

  • Cleaning & Wet Cap:  Cleaned wiper blade, capping station, filled capping station with Capping Fluid, then Wet Capped Printheads
  • Pinch Roller Maintenance: Clean the pinch rollers of the wax build up with a lint free rag.
  • Adhesive Powder System: At the end of the day, empty the powder from the dryer, including the excess powder drawer at the bottom of the dryer and seal it in a 5-gallon bucket to keep it from absorbing humidity
  • Dryer System: Turn Dryer off before doing maintenance - Inspect quartz bulbs, Clean with 90+ isopropyl alcohol (IPA) only when cool. Clean dryer belt with a damp rag.

Weekly Printer Maintenance

Before conducting any maintenance your printer and dryer should turned off.

  • Cleaning White Ink Mixing Tank: Check User’s Guide for procedure (page 36)
  • Empty Waste Tank:  Do not pour down the drain, put the ink in with either oil dry or kitty litter to turn the liquid into a solid. Once it is in a solid you can dispose it in the trash.
    Dispose of collected waste according to local regulations.

Weekly Filtration System Maintenance

  • Filter Inspection: Check foam and cloth filters for contamination or saturation. Inspect the pleated air filter for restricted airflow. Inspect the HEPA / charcoal filter for glycol buildup or moisture saturation
    Verify filters remain properly seated and dry
  • Cleaning or Replace:

  • Condensation Reservoir: Inspect and drain weekly (review user’s guide for procedure)
    Dispose of collected glycol waste according to local regulations.
  • Exhaust System Inspection: Inspect the dryer exhaust ducting from the dryer outlet to the filtration system. Verify that all duct connections are secure and free of leaks.Check for excessive powder buildup, obstructions, or damage to the ductwork. Clean any accumulated debris as required.

Weekly Dryer Maintenance

Before conducting any maintenance your printer and dryer should turned off.

  • Quartz Bulb & Connection Inspection: Verify all heating bulbs are working and there are no darkened areas or factures. Verify the bulb mounting hardware is secure and free of damage
  • Electrical Connection Inspection: Visual inspect the electronic components, wiring, terminals and wiring to make sure there are no discolored wiring or terminals, melted insultation, loose connections, or signs of arcing. If there are any of these issues - do not use until qualified personnel can inspect.
  • Exterior and Electrical Cabinet Cleaning: Refer to User’s Guide for procedure. Clean exterior panels and covers. Clean with dry compressed air: circuit boards, power supplies, servo drives, motor controllers, cooling fans, terminal blocks, wiring assemblies, electronic enclosures.
  • Check Belt Tension & Tracking: Refer to User’s Guide for procedure. List below any issues noticed or areas of concerns

Monthly Printer Maintenance:

Before conducting any maintenance your printer and dryer should turned off.

  • Lubrication: Clean and lubricate rails and bearings (inspect weekly during heavy production)
  • Encoder & Electronics: Clean the encoder strip using 20 psi dry compressed air or a damp lint-free rag. Power down the printer to blow out fans and power supplies.
  • Mechanical Inspection: Check all drive belts and pinch rollers for wear, tension, and tracking.
  • Deep Cleaning: Rinse all sediment from the white ink tank with water.
    Clean cap pads and replace them if necessary.            Clean only                   Replaced
  • Ink Filter and Damper Replacement: To minimize sediment buildup and protect the printheads, we recommend replacing all ink filters and dampers every six months.     ________ Date last replaced
  • At a minimum, the white inline ink filter should be replaced every 50–60 liters of ink used.

Monthly Dryer Maintenance:

Before conducting any maintenance your printer and dryer should turned off.

Clear Powder Buildup: Remove access powder buildup from the application auger bearings and sifter plate.
